More Able students
St Saviour’s & St Olave’s is committed to ensuring that all of our students reach their full potential. We target students with relevant opportunities in and out of class, in preparation for studying at Russell Group universities or moving on to high level apprenticeships.
Our teachers use differentiated learning objectives and ‘Stretch and Challenge’ activities in their teaching to ensure that Most Able students always have access to challenging work in and out of the classroom. Homework is regularly set and is designed to stretch students and develop independent learning skills.
IDENTIFYING MORE ABLE STUDENTS
At Key Stage Three and Key Stage Four, girls are identified as More Able students based on their achievement in English and Maths at KS2. As we get to know students we also look at the student’s current levels and recent exam results.
When they move into sixth form, students are identified based on their GCSE results. Students who achieve an average of a Grade B at GCSE level are placed on the Sixth Form Most Able register.
ELITE ACADEMIC PROGRAMME
Through our “Elite Academic Programme”, we offer More Able students extracurricular opportunities that will help to prepare them for continuing in education and the world of work. On PSHCE Days and via our programme of guest speakers, St Saviour’s students are able to meet inspirational visitors from the worlds of work and academia.
More Able students in both lower and higher year groups get the opportunity to visit Cambridge and other prestigious universities. In sixth form, our preparations for university applications are exemplary with students regularly winning places to read medicine or to study at Oxbridge colleges.
PROGRESS
We expect our most able pupils to make outstanding progress, to study the EBACC and their choice of creative subjects, and to achieve A/A* (Grade 8/9) in as many subjects as possible so that they are able to progress on to success in their choice of A levels in 6th Form and have access to the top Russell Group Universities. We have helped numerous students obtain places at prestigious colleges across London.
NACE Award
We were awarded the NACE Challenge Award. This is a national award for excellence. Schools that are successful in gaining the award have high quality provision for all students and more able students in particular.
